Kaji Shrestha re-elected CJN Chair

Kathmandu : Kaji Shrestha has been re-elected the chair of Nepal society of co-operative journalist - CJN. The seven-member executive committee led by Shrestha was elected unopposed by the CJN 13th AGM on Friday.

Arjun Khatiwada has been elected as the vice-chair, Santosh Rokaya as the secretary, Sudha Devkota as the joint-secretary and Madhav Kumar Khadka has been elected the treasurer for the new CJN leadership.

Shrestha has expressed his commitments to taking the organisation to a new height by fulfilling its objectives through collective efforts. Namita Dulal and Balaram Budhathoki are the members on the new executive committee.

During an inaugural session of the AGM, Secretary Gokarna Mani Duwadi at the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperative and Poverty Alleviation, said the cooperative sector has now been marred by the issue of trust deficit. "Governance issues in some cooperatives has its implications in the entire cooperative sector. The problem arose as board members and other stakeholders failed to abide by the cooperative rules and regulations," he said, proposing to initiate reform efforts in cooperatives from higher- level.

According to Register of Department of Cooperatives, Pitambar Ghimire, suggestions put forth by a taskforce formed to address issues in the cooperative sector are in the process of Chairperson of National Cooperative Federation of Nepal, Minraj Kadel, highlighted the role of three-tier government, media and the reform campaign to revive the significance of cooperatives.
